why become an instructor
CAN-BIKE Instructors are community leaders in cycling safety. They are experts with the certification to prove it. CAN-BIKE Instructors gain access benefits and resources that make leading cycling instruction easier and reduce risk. Some reasons to become a CAN-BIKE Instructor are:
- Grow cycling in your local community/organizations
- Earn additional income
- Receive access to a proven curriculum
- Receive insurance coverage for yourself as an instructor
- Ability to access discounted insurance coverage for your participants if not already in place
Instructor Requirements
To become an instructor, candidates must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have previously completed the Level 5 course
- To be eligible for a Level 5 course, candidates must complete a Level 4 course with an 80% or better mark on the written exam, handling skills, and road tests.
- Be an experienced rider with demonstrated competence
- Have some teaching experience or training.
- Have a bicycle in safe operating condition and a bicycle helmet. Both the bicycle and helmet should meet all local requirements in your area.
- Complete the additional items listed below:
- Hold a current first aid certificate
- Complete and submit a background check from within the last three years; but be resubmitted if over 3 years old (can be completed for $25 online here)
- Complete the NCCP Safe Sport Training eLearning module

To complete the annual Instructor registration, you can complete the form here. Registration costs $45/year.
