Smith, Gatto and Brown among World’s best in downhill Mountain Bike

(Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC – June 25, 2012) Canadian downhiller Steve Smith posted the seventh fastest time on the last day of competition at the Mountain bike World cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne, near Quebec city, while Michaela Gatto placed fifth in the women’s race.

Smith, who won the silver medal at the 2010 World Championships on the same 2.83-kilometre course, posted a time of 4:18.543. Smith, Canada’s top downhiller, currently sits in 6th place of the UCI World Cup standings. In the opening race of the World Cup tour, he rode to a fifth place in South Africa.

In the women’s race, Canada’s Micayla Gatto and Casey Brown finished fifth and sixth. Gatto crossed the finish line with a time of 4:59.435 for the fifth place, while Brown finished with a time of 5:01.704, in sixth.
