FOUR CANADIANS GRAB WORLD CUP LEADER’S JERSEY IN SPAIN
Marie-Claude Molnar, Marie-Ève Croteau, Shelley Gautier and Robbi Weldon/Lyne Bessette are all leading World Cup Tour
(Segovia, SPA – June 17, 2012) Four Canadian athletes are coming home to Canada with the coveted white jersey tucked away in their luggage, a jersey awarded to the leader of the UCI World Cup standings, after a successful stop in Segovia, Spain.
Marie-Claude Molnar, in the Women’s C4 category, finished second of the road race in Spain, and with the results takes over the lead in the season’s World Cup standings.
Both of Canada’s tricycle riders Shelley Gautier (T1) and Marie-Ève Croteau (T2) are also leading the standings in their respective categories. Today, both won their respective road race.
“It was a demanding ride, and I was able to push through it all the way. I’m really happy with my races here in Spain,” said Gautier, visibly happy.
Her teammate Marie-Eve Croteau, keeps progressing in her young career. “Today was my best win to date. I was a bit doubtful of the cobblestone climb, but as I focused and applied the game plan set by my coaches, I was able to achieve the best placing today. Mission accomplished in Segovia.”
The women’s tandem comprised of Robbi Weldon and Lyne Bessette also have the coveted white jersey in its possession.
The Canadian Para-cycling team now comes back to Canada, to race at the 2012 COLD-FX Canadian Road Championships on Canada Day weekend in Lac Mégantic, QC. Then, the team will travel to Baie-Comeau for the third and final stop of the UCI World Cup Tour.
