OTTAWA, ON (October 5, 2025) – Canada’s top BMX Freestyle athletes descended on Bromont this weekend for the 2025 Canadian BMX Freestyle Championships, held at the Centre national de cyclisme (National Training Centre). With Canadian titles on the line, riders delivered high-energy performances across elite and open categories, showcasing the creativity, precision, and progression that define the sport.
In the Elite Women’s field, Québec’s Marie-Soleil St-Laurent stood out with a commanding ride that earned her the maple leaf jersey. St- Laurent said, “I’m very proud because I’m still young! I used to do freestyle skiing, and I didn’t have anything to do in the summer, so I started BMX. I was curious about the sport after watching freestyle at the Olympics and I saw Jeffrey Whaley competing. I thought, that’s nice, I want to do that! I’d like to participate in as many competitions as I can now.”
On the men’s side, 2024 Elite Men’s winner, Maxime Chalifour impressed judges with technical execution and amplitude, securing the Elite Men’s title for another year ahead of Jeffrey Whaley and Mike Varga. The category also marked a strong showing from Ontario athletes, who filled seven of the top ten spots in the men’s standings.
“It’s a big deal to be honest,” said Chalifour. “Of course, my goal was to defend my title, and it was a super intense battle. You never know with the other Canadian boys. Everyone is riding so well and that bowl is such a challenging bowl to put everything together compared to where we normally ride. Let’s keep the good times rolling!”
The weekend also featured the Championnats québécois de BMX Freestyle, where provincial titles were awarded in Elite and Open 14 & Under categories. St-Laurent and Chalifour doubled up with wins on both the national and provincial stages, while Xavier Lefevre-Aubut claimed the Open 14 & Under Men’s title with a standout performance. Fellow young riders Kristian Mancini and Rowan Peacock also impressed, highlighting the depth of emerging talent in Québec’s freestyle scene.
