Learn About Cycling Canada Insurance Programs
BFL CANADA, in partnership with Cycling Canada, is proud to offer a comprehensive Cycling Insurance and Risk Management Program for governing bodies across the country.
This program has been specifically designed to support Cycling Canada, Participating Provincial & Territorial Associations (PPTAs), affiliated cycling clubs, and their members. Coverage extends to all Cycling Canada and PPTA members for approved and sanctioned activities confirmed through their respective provincial associations.
Insurance is one important method of handling claims, but only when it is practical, possible, and cost-effective. Cycling Canada has engaged what it feels is an effective insurance carrier who knows the needs of our organization for policy coverage in the areas of commercial general liability, directors and officers’ liability, and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage.

Cyclists’ responsibility code
Cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists must learn to coexist on the road together. For everyone’s safety, the cyclists’ responsibility code offers 10 tenets to help prepare cyclists and bike riders to avoid crashes, share the road, stay safe, and have fun.
- Always stay in control. You must be able to ride safely among others, to come to a complete stop, and to avoid obstacles—all without causing harm to yourself or others. You must only participate in events that match your fitness and ability level.
- You must be familiar with the course and the environs.
- Don’t ride on any course if you’re not participating in that field or event.
- Obey, at all times, the rules governing this sport and the rules governing this event. Observe and obey, at all times, all event signage and personnel, including event staff, marshals, commissaries, security staff, and police officers.
- You must always wear an approved helmet while astride your bicycle during an event.
- Use only equipment with which you’re familiar and that’s in good working order.
- Don’t stop where you may obstruct the race in progress or where you’re not visible to oncoming riders or others.
- You must not participate in the event if you’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol, excessively fatigued, or if you’re dizzy or ill.
- If you don’t finish the event, you must clearly report to a commissaire or designated event staff that you’re withdrawing.
- Understand the risks of this sport and take time to read and understand all documents you’re signing, as well as this Cyclists’ Responsibility Code.
Know the code—be safety conscious. It’s your responsibility to stay safe and keep others around you safe.
