about nica
Cycling Canada serves as Canada’s national governing body for cycling, from the amateur to Olympic/Paralympic level. Today, our role is to engage, unite and support our provincial, territorial, and national level partners to collectively develop our community through high quality programs, events and services that are aligned from coast-to-coast.
Our purpose is simple: inspire Canadians to cycle. Our mandate is to holistically develop our sport, putting more Canadians on bikes from coast-to-coast and on podiums around the world.
NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) is a youth mountain biking program originally established in high schools around Berkley, California. Since then it has expanded to include school and community-based teams across the country. We’re pleased to support the growth of NICA Canada and its role in the playground to podium pathway. These leagues and teams are designed to be the bridge between Hop On programs and more rigorous or competitive development programs.

There are no tryouts, no bench and everyone gets to ride in this challenge by choice environment. NICA Canada’s programming is adapted to fit the Canadian context. That means a Spring and Fall season to capitalize on the best riding weather while allowing young riders and families to diversify their spring and summer activities.
