A DOUBLE WEEKEND OF CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR BMX AND MOUNTAIN BIKE ATHLETES

OTTAWA, ON (August 22, 2025) – Canada’s cycling community is gearing up for an exciting weekend as the 2025 Canadian BMX Racing Championships head to St. Albert, AB, while the Canadian XCM Mountain Bike Championships presented by Tbaytel  take place in Thunder Bay, ON. Scheduled for this weekend from August 23–24, both events will bring athletes together from across the country to compete for national titles in two high-performance disciplines.

The Canadian BMX Racing Championships, held in conjunction with the Canada Cup #9, will take place at the St. Albert BMX track for two days of fast-paced racing across Challenge and Championship categories. Riders will battle for the maple leaf jersey in one of cycling’s most explosive formats in events for Junior, under 23 years old (U23), and Elite categories. The event also plays a key role in athlete development, offering a competitive platform for riders on the national pathway.

“Cycling Canada is proud to support the 2025 Canadian BMX Racing Championships in St. Albert, Alberta this coming weekend. This event showcases the incredible talent and dedication of BMX athletes from across the country, and we’re proud to see them compete on one of Canada’s most exciting tracks,” says Cycling Canada, Community and Events Director, Robyn Skinner. “St. Albert BMX has created a world-class venue that reflects the passion and energy of the BMX community. We’re looking forward to an unforgettable weekend of racing, camaraderie, and celebrating Canadian cycling excellence.”

Among the registered athletes are Molly Simpson and Ryan Tougas, who are both expected to deliver strong performances in the Elite Championship races. Simpson enters the event following a standout Olympic debut and World Cup win, while Tougas returns as the defending national champion and Canada’s top finisher at last year’s World Championships. Rounding out the group is Junior Women’s athlete Victoria Dubé and U23 BMX rider Chad Beadouin who are sure to bring the energy this weekend. The event will feature two full days of racing, with Challenge and Championship categories scheduled throughout the weekend.

On August 23, 2025, the Canadian XCM Mountain Bike Championships presented by Tbaytel will take place in Thunder Bay. Organized by the Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club, the single-day marathon features challenging 60 km and 90 km Championship distances, contested at Trowbridge Forest (i.e., Trowbridge Falls / Kinsmen Park). National titles will be awarded across age-group and Elite categories, alongside earlier-day Challenge events spanning shorter distances. The course is designed to test endurance, strategy, and technical skill. For XCM, the U17, Junior, and Masters categories are new Canadian Championships categories in 2025.

The 2024 Elite Men’s winner, Sean Fincham, will return to the national stage alongside a deep field of talented competitors in all categories, which promises to be an exciting and hard-fought battle for the 2025 title. “Bringing back the Canadian Championships for a second year is an incredible opportunity for Thunder Bay,” said David Valente, President, Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club. “Having world-class athletes like Andrew L’Esperance, Sean Fincham, and Haley Smith compete here and welcoming Olympian Curt Harnett as our guest speaker, makes this a truly special celebration of cycling.”

With national jerseys up for grabs and a weekend of racing ahead, both championships promise to deliver memorable performances and celebrate the strength of Cycling Canada’s riders. Visit our official event page for the final results.
