SIX CANADIAN ATHLETES TO TAKE ON TOUR DE L’AVENIR

OTTAWA, ON (August 17, 2026) – Cycling Canada is excited to announce its 2026 roster for 62nd edition of the Tour de l’Avenir. This year’s edition will see Canada’s best U23 riders make their way across France from August 20th to August 26th during 7 stages of exciting racing.

The 2026 Grand Depart will take place in Caen La Mer in Normandy before beginning its south-eastern trajectory. The race will finish with 3 Alpine stages including two in the Haute Savoie region which will host the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships.

Cycling Canada brings a squad to the event full of both potential and experience. The team is complete with riders that bring experience from racing the European pro scene and North America’s best road races.

Adam Smith and Monty Rigby highlight the squad after successful seasons riding for European Continental teams. Adam will be using the race as an important step in his preparation before the Montreal 2026 Road World Championships. Both riders raced to impressive top-ten results in their first year racing at the professional level in Europe. That experience in the tight confines of the European peloton will put them in good standing for what is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious U23 races around. Fresh off his first major games appearance at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games is national team track rider Gabriel Seguin. With new Individual Pursuit best times and a top ten in the Scratch Race, he’ll be one to watch as he returns to the tarmac. Carson Mattern brings his TT prowess to the team. Joining Adam as a member of the U23 Montreal World Championships team, he will be looking forward to the Individual Time Trial day on stage 5. Sam Couture will bring experience to this young squad. A returning member from the 2025 team, he’ll be looking to make a big impact on the 2026 race after a fall shortened his campaign last year. Rounding out the squad is Filip Duarte, with plenty of UCI race days under his belt, he’ll be primed to perform at this year’s race.
