OTTAWA, ON (August 4, 2026) – The 2026 Canadian Masters Road Championships wrapped up a full weekend of racing in Calgary, where athletes from across the country battled for national titles in the time trial, road race, and criterium. Hosted in partnership with Bow Cycle and integrated into the Tour de Bowness, the event saw competitive rides across age groups.
Friday’s time trial set the tone with high energy across all categories. Warren Muir posted the fastest time of the day to win Masters Men 35–39 (A), with Nigel Wray taking Masters Men 40–44 (A). Mark Sherboneau and Mark Daws claimed Masters Men 45–49 (B) and 50–54 (B), while Bruce Bird and Gary Alexander topped Masters Men 55–59 (C) and 60–64 (C). Men’s Titles also went to Brian Countryman (D 65–69), Bob Simpson (D 70–74), and Stew Hutchings (D 75–99). On the women’s side, victories went to Brittany Mercier in Women’s 35–39 (A) and Stephanie Flynn in 40–44 (A). Deirdre Maloney (B 45–49) and Debra Sluz (B 50–54) also earned titles, followed by Paolina Allan (C 55–59) and Dawn Heinemeyer (C 60–64). Closing out the women’s results, Margie Ritchie (D 65–69) and Gaylene Halter (D 70–74) captured their respective titles.
Saturday’s road races delivered challenging climbs. In the women’s field, Margie Ritchie (D 65–69), Gaylene Halter (D 70–74), Paolina Allan (C 55–59), Dawn Heinemeyer (C 60–64), and Deirdre Maloney (B 45–49) all doubled up with second championship titles on day two, joined by Carolyn Russel (B 50–54), Jodi Wendland (A 40–44), and Sinéad Tracey (A 35–39). On the men’s side, champions included Brian Countryman (D 65–69), Willy Van Sevenant (D 70–74), Pierre L’Ecuyer (D 75–99), Lorenzo Caterini (C 60–64), Bruce Bird (C 55–59), Shannon Hunt (B 50–54), and Andrew Conley (B 45–49). Olivier Hamel powered to the Masters A (35–39) title, and Jerome McNicoll in the Masters A (40–44).
Sunday’s criterium delivered fast racing on a tight downtown circuit to close out the weekend. In the men’s field, victories went to Olivier Hamel (A 35–39) and David Collings (A 40–44), Andrew Conley (B 45–49) and Francois Doyon (B 50–54), Eugene Hahn (C 55–59) and Greg Cavanagh (C 60–64), and Daniel Blanche (D 65–69), Willy Van Sevenant (D 70–74), and Pierre L’Ecuyer (D 75–99). On the women’s side, Emma Scott (A 35–39) and Stephanie Flynn (A 40–44) claimed the Masters A titles, with Shantel Koenig (B 45–49) and Carolyn Russell (50–54) taking Masters B. Dawn Heinemeyer (C 60–64) topped Masters C, and Anna Tykoliz secured the Masters D win.

A special recognition goes to athlete Stew Hutchings, whose participation in the time trial at 80 exemplifies the depth of Masters racing and continues to inspire riders across the community.
